About Short + Sweet Sydney 2024:

Short + Sweet Sydney 2024 will bring about a revitalized and bold festival headed by the new festival director Liviu Monsted.

Short +Sweet Sydney 2024 aims to focus on new and unique ideas with an added emphasis on spotlighting the individual writers behind the works and their process.

We will be introducing the following new initiatives into the program to better acknowledge the writing and to support the production process.

1. A new award!
Short + Sweet Sydney 2024 will be introducing a new award category:
The Unique Play Award – This award is designed to put a spotlight on plays that have an original or unique premise. We are looking for plays that push boundaries and are utterly like no other, whether that be in structure, premise, tone or style.

2. The mentor program
It is most important that we encourage first timers into the festival on all fronts, from writers to directors and so on. To facilitate the newcomers, we will have 6 Short+Sweet alumni who will act as mentors to the newcomers.

3. A Short + Sweet Sydney Blog

This blog will follow up on Short +Sweet Sydney alumni, we will have interviews, thought pieces, insights and more. If you have ever been part of short + Sweet Sydney and have a project youd like to share, let us know what your up to and we'll post about it.

4. Screenplay to Stage

We are accepting 10 min screenplay's.

Adapt your screenplay for the stage. This is a cheap and affective way to see if your screenplay has legs.

> Get valuable audiance feedback

> See if the narrative/ dialogue is affective

> find a cast and director

> Get lots of publicity

> Save a ton of money on script development

How to enter screenplay:

You simply enter your adapted screenplay at our script entry portal and write in inverted comas (screenplay) next to play title.

If you don't want to adapt the work yourself, you can opt for  a director to help adapt the work, simply write (director adapt) at the head of the synopsis section.

5.  The School Initiative

Short + Sweet Sydney 2024 is opening its doors to your drama students!

Short + Sweet Sydney is accepting ITC applications from HSC group performances. We are also opening our doors to writers in your drama class and are offering interships for studants wanting a Cert 3 in Live Production, Theatre and Events.

Short + Sweet Sydney 2024 is putting the spotlight back on the writer and we look forward to reading your works.

Play submissions close 1st August.

Best of luck!

Cheers,
Liviu Monsted
