Short+Sweet Comedy Festival 2019
Following on from a successful debut in 2017 breaking all prior records in the Middle East, the third Short+Sweet Comedy Festival will be held at the home of Short+Sweet in Dubai, The Junction on Wednesday November 20 and Saturday November 23, 2019.
Bigger & Better than ever before. The Region's Largest Comedy Festival that kickstarted many a comedy careers is back with a bang. The funniest battle you will ever see on stage!
All comics are welcome irrespective of their nationalities. There are separate heats for regional language comics - Arabic, Hindi & Urdu - so you are welcome to enter no matter what language you speak. Also comics may perform in two different languages if you're game. So what are you waiting for.....?
First Timers are more than welcome. Looking for a new way to disappoint your parents? Try your hand at Comedy.

Each comedian will get only 1 slot (in up to two languages) in the preliminary round.
Only Comedians participating in the Preliminary Rounds - Regional Category will get another slot to perform in the Preliminary Rounds - International Category if they wish to perform twice.
Acts could be Stand-Up, Improv', Sketch, Play, Poetry, Musical, Parody, 2 Person or Group Act, but has to be from the Comedy Genre Only.
5 Minutes Maximum for each set.
About 20 finalists to be chosen from the preliminary rounds.
Finalists can repeat the same set for the finale or do a completely different act.
Rules & Regulations are subject to change without prior notice.
The Venue & Organizers reserve their rights as final say in case of any dispute or cheating on part of the performer(s).
Judges Choice(s) will be final.

Following on from a successful debut in 2017 in the Middle East and Dubai, Short+Sweet Comedy now comes to the Illawarra!
If you have a comedy act of any sort we would love to hear from you, styles accepted include Stand-Up, Improv', Sketch, Poetry, Musical, Parody, 2 Person or Group Act - but it must be comedy.

1) "Get Wit it" Comedy Workshop for Participating Comedians by seasoned comedian Adnan Nalwala.
(First 30 Registrations get a 15% Discount to the workshop.)
Adnan Nalwala - one of the most energetic and entertaining stand up comedian in the Indian comedy circuit for a unique workshop on comedy! Adnan has a wide experience in performing comedy shows in India, Middle East & USA. He has performed alongside Vir Das to an audience of 1200 people. He has performed in over 300 shows internationally. Adnan will share tools and techniques on how to improve your delivery on stage. You will learn how to make your own thoughts and stories hilarious and thus become the star of a party.

2) The Mercedes Benz Challenge for Participating Comedians
(First 30 Registrations / 8 Teams):
RushAWay & Gargash in association with Comic On Nights Presents The Mercedes Benz Challenge for Comedians. Contesting teams of 4 members will drive around the city in a Mercedes-Benz, tackling 7 unique challenges. In their endeavor, teams will test their mental and physical fitness, quick thinking and camaraderie, all while having a blast! 100 teams will compete to conquer 7 challenges in style, to win the grand prize a - Mercedes-Benz - SUV! First 30 people to register to the Short & Sweet Comedy Festival get a direct spot in the Mercedes-Benz Challenge as 8 teams. T&C's Apply.

The Black Canvas in association with Comic On Nights give the first 30 people to register to the Short & Sweet Comedy Festival 2018 an all expense paid professional portfolio photo shoot.

Rules of the Festival
+ Entry to the Festival is FREE. All poets are welcome. Entry is open to all poets 12 years and above.
+ Poems presented at the festival must be the work of the poet/s presenting the poem. Poems authored by co-authors are welcome.
+ Poems may be presented in any style - read, recited, enacted, sung, performed, danced, dramatised - as long as they are presented by the poet/s. Performance poetry is welcome.
+ A microphone, lectern and chair will be provided if required. No lighting changes are allowed during the presentation but background music or live musical accompaniment is allowed. Poets are also welcome to bring along their own props and/or costumes if desired.
+ The poet may present any number of poems but their total stage time must not exceed 5 minutes. The time limit is strictly applied and those who go over 5 minutes are disqualified.
+ Poems may be presented in either Arabic, English, Hindi or Urdu.
+ Poems must not have been presented at Short+Sweet Poetry Dubai previously.
+ Each heat will have between ten to twenty poets presenting.
+ A designated number of poets will be selected from each heat by audience and judge’s voting to take place in the Gala Finals of Short+Sweet Poetry. The Festival Director (Dhruti Shah D'souza) may also chose to add additional finalist as the Festival Director’s choice.
+ The following awards will be presented to the winners at the end of the Gala Finals: Best Poet English, Best Poet Arabic, Best Poet Hindi, Best Poet Urdu, Best Poet - Audience’s Choice, Best Poem, Best Poetry Performance, Festival Director's Choice (optional) - in all three categories.

SHORT+SWEET POETRY
FESTIVAL DIRECTOR: Dhruti Shah D'souza
The first ever Short+Sweet Poetry will be held at the home of Short+Sweet in Dubai, The Junction in Alserkal Avenue Al Quoz, on September 22 & 23, 2017.
The focus of Short+Sweet poetry is the spoken word. All other distractions are removed so that the audience and judges can focus on the words and delivery.
+ Short+Sweet Poetry is performed on a bare stage in a simple pool of light. A lectern or chair can be provided if the poet requires one. No lighting changes, sound FX or projections of any kind are permitted.
+ All poems must be the work of the poet/s and read by the poet/s. There will be three age categories – 12 and under, 13-18 and Open. There is no age limit to participation but the poet must read their own work.
+ Poems may be performed in either Arabic, English, Hindi or Urdu.
+ The poet may read any number of poems but their total stage time must not exceed 5 minutes. The time limit is strictly applied and those who go over 5 minutes are disqualified.
