Short+Sweet Poetry Dubai 2018

Short+Sweet Dubai is an amazing year long programme of festivals to be held at The Junction in Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz.

SHORT+SWEET POETRY

FESTIVAL DIRECTOR: Dhruti Shah D'souza

Following on from a successful debut in 2017, the second Short+Sweet Poetry Festival will be held at the home of Short+Sweet in Dubai, The Junction in Alserkal Avenue Al Quoz, on October 5th and 6th, 2018.

Rules of the Festival

+ Entry to the Festival is FREE. All poets are welcome. Entry is open to all poets 12 years and above.

+ Poems presented at the festival must be the work of the poet/s presenting the poem. Poems authored by co-authors are welcome.

+ Poems may be presented in any style - read, recited, enacted, sung, performed, danced, dramatised - as long as they are presented by the poet/s. Performance poetry is welcome.

+ A microphone, lectern and chair will be provided if required. No lighting changes are allowed during the presentation but background music or live musical accompaniment is allowed. Poets are also welcome to bring along their own props and/or costumes if desired.

+ The poet may present any number of poems but their total stage time must not exceed 5 minutes. The time limit is strictly applied and those who go over 5 minutes are disqualified.

+ Poems may be presented in either Arabic, English, Hindi or Urdu.

+ Poems must not have been presented at Short+Sweet Poetry Dubai previously.

+ Each heat will have between ten to twenty poets presenting.

+ A designated number of poets will be selected from each heat by audience and judge’s voting to take place in the Gala Finals of Short+Sweet Poetry. The Festival Director (Dhruti Shah D'souza) may also chose to add additional finalist as the Festival Director’s choice.

+ The following awards will be presented to the winners at the end of the Gala Finals: Best Poet English, Best Poet Arabic, Best Poet Hindi, Best Poet Urdu, Best Poet - Audience’s Choice, Best Poem, Best Poetry Performance, Festival Director's Choice (optional) - in all three categories.
