Short+Sweet Sydney are excited to announce our new festival partner is the SmartFone Flick Fest which is currently open for submissions.
SF3 is the brainchild of Angela Blake and Ali Crew who met through the Short+Sweet Festival in 2013.
They came through the Short+Sweet process; Angela registering to be a director, choosing one of the hundreds of scripts that was sent to her, then casting Ali through one of Short+Sweet’s open audition days for the Wildcard play “Weeing on a Stick”. The play made it through to the finals and went on to win the title of Best Overall Wildcard. Following the play’s success they made it into a short film and it was through this process their idea for launching a smartphone film festival was born. Angela and Ali were inspired by the way Short+Sweet makes theatre accessible for everyone and anyone, and they wanted to create a similar festival for film with the premise of the festival to promote accessible and affordable filmmaking to everyone, and a platform for filmmakers to have their work seen by a global audience.
The festival is currently open for submissions which will close on August 16 ahead of a Gala Finals Screening of the Top Ten films at Chauvel Cinema on August 28.
Full competition details can be found here.
