Short+Sweet Theatre Kolkata

Short+Sweet Theatre festival is a competition of 10 minute plays staged by local artists/theatre groups, amateur and professional alike.The festival is to be held from 1st-9th August 2015 and local Script Writers, Directors, Theatre groups and  Actors were invited to register their interest. The submissions are over for the year.

The Directors will be able to select from the shortlisted local scripts & international scripts provided by Short+Sweet. The Directors will cast their plays through common auditions (to be held in May). These plays will be  produced  on stage during the festival where eminent local theatre personalities and audience members will vote for their favourites. Ten shortlisted finalists will compete in the Gala Finals for various awards.

The festival will be an annual event just the way it  runs all over the world.

    Synopsis or directors note: Diya wakes up to her ex-boyfriend, boss's PA and her mother. But Diya did not call them, so who did?? A comedy that will leave you in splits!!

    Synopsis or directors note: A beggar and an unemployed youth discuss life, violence, education and eventually realize the real meaning of poverty.

    Synopsis: Things get interesting and dangerous for an average, tired-of-each-other couple who seek entertainment in word games when each discovers the 'magical power' of crosswords!

    Synopsis or directors note. To believe on someting even if there is no hope or love...and to think that not every person is equal and same thinking in all the casts.

    Synopsis or directors note: A being, limited to human capacities, with superhuman conviction, here is narrating to her friend about her relentless struggle between fantasy and reality, where the realms of both the field merges, forming a delicately intricate symphony, at times, yet  again, at other's a nightmare beyond redemption!

    Synopsis or directors note: The Red Curtain has been doing a lot of Jazz Theatre. In Jazz Theatre, there is no script, as such. But there is a clear beginning, middle and end. This plot depicts the birth of a song.

    Synopsis or director’s note: This is a uniquely animated adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth played in 10 minutes using Svetlana Biba’s techniques. The play is an attempt to blend new age digital, internet and cinematic visual aesthetics in a live dramatic performance. This is done not by the use of mixed media, but human bodies. The play is performed in a rectangular space measuring 6ftX4ft with the actors present in the space throughout the performance. Make-up and costumes are minimalistic. The quaint visual texture created is complemented by an innovative sound design using vocal orchestra only. The play is another one in the collection of 4th Bell Theatre’s ‘practically zero-budget, literally portable’ plays.

    Synopsis or director's note: There are several plays that have focused on the myriad forms of human relationships -- familial, romantic, professional, male friendships.  But what about a play about two female friends?  Given the dearth of plays in this area, I thought I would take the plunge.

    Synopsis or directors note. "Mukhota' is a story of a person who pretends to be genuine, but when he encounters his inner-self, he discovers that his gen-unity is just a pretension.

    Synopsis or Directors POV : Coffee is something everyone loves to drink now a days. Whether you are on a Date, as Refreshment, on Death, during Exams- in every stage of life, coffee is constant. Take it.. taunt, farce or comedy but we still need to know “How to drink a coffee.”

    Synopsis or directors note: This is a dramatic monologue delivered by a person suffering from a nervous disorder bordering on the schizophrenic but what he says is a strange kind of political commentary that reflects the troubled times that we are passing through.

    Synopsis: We need some amount of myth, magic and mysticism in our lives but they often get stuck behind red tape as we struggle to survive and we end up leaving no space for such things as we move on. Cerise de Gelder uses the analogy of a Unicorn in the allegorical setting of Noah and his Ark to artfully demonstrate this gross injustice.
