Exciting news! The globally renowned festival, "Short + Sweet," is touching down in beautiful Yorkshire! 

Nestled in Yorkshire's picturesque embrace, the Short and Sweet Festival finds its perfect home amid rolling hills and historic charm. The region's beauty, from quaint villages to sprawling moors, provides a captivating backdrop, enhancing the festival experience and creating lasting memories for attendees and performers alike.

Short+Sweet will showcase a variety of 10-minute plays & digital media to delight your tastebuds, with talented actors, writers, directors, digital media & filmmakers showcasing their skills and bringing you a wonderful season of short theatre & film. 

Our vision is simple - a more creative world 10 minutes at a time! 

Get Involved! 

There is no festival without YOU! 

We are inviting all writers to create a 10-minute script, all directors to direct a 10- minute play and of course, all actors to bring the plays to life. Independent theatre companies are also invited to enter.

Digital media and filmakers can send in complete pieces of up to 10 minutes too. 

Applications will open shortly for the festival which will be based in beautiful Harrogate in June, 2024. 

The Short+Sweet festival is a wonderful tool for writers, directors and actors who want to share their voice and talent in a professional environment and venue. Its goal is to become a powerful tool for diversity in the entertainment industry, as well as providing a way to discover new or established local talent by engaging more people in the live theatre experience.  

 Whether you are established or first-time,this opportuntiy is open to anyone who wants to have a go. There are no limits to the creativity or content of your scripts, only that it can be performed in 10 minutes or under.   

Script Submissions are open now and close on 18th March, 2024

Digital Media, Film & Screenplay Submissions are now open and will close on 10th April.

Sign Ups for Actors and Directors is now open and will close 12th April, 2024

    For the full Terms and Conditions of submitting a script to Short+Sweet, please see below. Read these carefully before submitting! Any entry which does not comply with the Terms And Conditions will be deemed ineligible and no refund will be offered. 

    Of particular note: DO NOT INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE WRITER(S) anywhere on your script(s) and PLEASE TIME YOUR SCRIPT BEFORE ENTERING to make sure the running time is ten minutes or less!

    *Note also that due to circumstances out of our control, such as covid, a festival might be cancelled or postponed. No refund will be offered in this circumstance.

    Category winners will have thier ilm shown at our Fesitval final at Everyman Harrogate on Thursday 4th July where our audience and a panel of judges will award the "Best of the Fest" from category winners.

Directors Call Out

  1. ATTENTION DIRECTORS!


    Registrations for Short+Sweet Yorkshire 2024 are open every year to  established and first-time directors.


    Short+Sweet is the perfect opportunity for actors, writers or anyone to try directing for the first time.


    Directors are able to choose from all shortlisted scripts for their local festival, and are encouraged to communicate with their Writers throughout the process. 


    Directors cannot act in their own play unless they enter the production as an ITC (Independent Theatre Company) which is where the play, Director and cast are all already attached and submit directly to the Festival Director.

Actor Call Out

  1. We welcome professional and enthusiastic amateurs’ actors alike. Our festival is about inclusion and community, so everyone is welsome.


    Before registering, please check the key festival dates and make sure you’ll be available. This festival is a commitment and you are a vital piece of the festival, so please make sure you can commit the time.


    If you are selected as an actor, you will be contacted by the director of one of the plays that will be perfomed in the Festival.
