Thank you for your interest in directing for Short+Sweet Theatre Canberra 2019!
Directors make everyone’s day: you bring a script to life for the writer, and you spend most of your time trying to make actors look good on stage!
We welcome directors from all walks of life, from professional directors to enthusiastic amateurs. Everyone gets a go, although we do try to balance providing opportunities for new directors with bringing back the experience of those who’ve done it all before.
If you are selected as a director, you will be emailed three scripts that the festival director thinks might suit you particularly well on 4 June. You will also be given access to a Dropbox folder with all scripts shortlisted for the festival. You must send your preferences to the festival director by midnight on 6 June.
Before registering, please check the key festival dates and make sure you’ll be available.
The Directors Briefing on 10 February, and the company meetings and rehearsals relevant to your play (Top 20 Week 1, Wildcards or Top 20 Week 2) are absolutely essential. A technical rehearsal time will be set on the relevant date with some negotiation over time possible. No director can participate in the festival unless they attend these events.
If you are an inexperienced director, or you haven’t directed in a while, we recommend you attend the directors’ workshop on 11 February. This workshop will give you some helpful tips for setting a cracking pace.
Please provide your details and the festival director will get back to you as soon as possible.
