Fast+Fresh Workshops
Fast+Fresh Theatre Melbourne 2007 was a great success, with 29 short plays from 15 schools being presented over 3 nights of heats at St Martins Youth Arts Centre, and culminating in a Gala Final to a packed audience at the Fairfax Studio at the Arts Centre.
In 2008, workshops were held at a venue and at schools in February order to provide guidance to teachers and students in creating a play for the theatre, particularly in this 10-minute short form.
There are two models for the workshop, one held on one day at a centralised venue, and the other more condensed form held at the schools themselves.
One-Day Workshop
The one-day workshop is held in a venue, and is open to a maximum of 20 participants, aiming at 2 participants per school (1 teacher, 1 student). The schools decide which student is most appropriate for this; it can be the potential writer, actor or director.
The workshop consist of 3 main sessions taken by 3 different tutors, all professionals in the industry:
1) Playability: How does a script work on stage? Learn about how a script is a blue print for performance rather than just ideas. Includes improvisation games.
2) Writing for the Theatre: How do you write a play? How is it different from a film / TV script? How do you turn an idea into a play?
3) Form and Directing: Looks at the specifics of a 10-minute play, and the directing and staging of this particular theatre style.
This is an all-day workshop, starting at 10.00am and finishing around 4.00pm. The cost for this workshop is $20 for students, $40 for teachers, including GST.
In-School Workshop
This is a condensed version of the one-day workshop. One or more tutors visit your school and hold a 90-min workshop (including a break) which covers a simplified version of the 3 sessions above.
This is open to multiple students (maximum of 25), and the cost is $150 per workshop.
